Abstract
The artist's statement: My work is mostly a composition of projects I created while at Colorado State University. It is a mixture of redesigns, branding, illustrations, and working with type. My process can be summed up in just a couple of steps: research, sketches, and final ideas; complete illustrations (usually digitally); put into InDesign and format with type; if mockups are needed, move to Photoshop; and tie up any last bits. As a graphic artist, I mostly use my iPad and computer, along with a sketchbook, to get my ideas out. Depending on the project, though, I will move outside that and use acrylic and watercolor paint or possibly even clay or photography. The vital first step is research. Researching what details to include, significance, function, and sizing. This is where I find most of my inspiration and ideas. Then I go with those ideas and create hundreds of thumbnails and continue that until I land on a few top ideas that I then flesh out. Then, back and forth, I decide what works and what doesn't. This is also the point in a collaborative environment where we discuss next steps. Then I finish it up and add whatever aftereffects I need, and the project is ready to go.
