dc.description.abstractIn support of a balloon shelter development program at NCAR a series of wind tunnel tests were performed at the Fluid Dynamics and Diffusion Laboratory, Colorado State University. The study concerned the staling criteria for such a simulation; velocity, turbulence, and frequency spectra downwind of four basic shelter shapes; the effect of screen material on shelter efficiency; and the influence of a simulated balloon presence upon the effectiveness of the shelter.
