The artist's statement: My work is interested in examining idiosyncrasies in relationships, particularly within the structure of care. My confessional art becomes time capsules from my chronology, digesting the everyday thoughts and feelings. Nonrepresentational symbols consisting of material and found objects communicate specific 'instances', often neutrally displaying multiple sides. My process is grounded in meticulous obsession coupled with external variation: distressing, dyeing, and time-based ageing. It is informed by intuitively creating through assembling, building up, and taking away. My artworks start with material and treatment. How does the way the material is treated convey meaning? Printing becomes a display of intimacy, and wrapping is a sign of care. With rust, the materials are so attached that time becomes material. By manipulating material and form with minimalist communication, misplacing an object, or displaying mistakes, it becomes deeply poetic. The materials I use take on new forms within different contexts, making writing particularly important in grounding the works within context. I often reuse objects and forms to communicate similar ideas: like using the same 'words' in different 'sentences'. Ultimately, my final forms act as emblems that exude the essence of my concept.
