Travelers in truth: odos (ὁδός), methodos (μέθοδος), and epistemē (ἐπιστήμη) in Socratic dialectic

Abstract

My thesis explores the role of dialectic inquiry and the production of belief in three of Plato's dialogues: Phaedrus, Theaetetus, and Gorgias. I argue that the dialectic method distinguishes philosophy from other techne (τέχνη) and highlights the social factors of knowledge production.
