COALITIONS FOR GREEN ENERGY: VIABILITY OF AGRIVOLTAIC SYSTEMS IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH

Abstract

Agrivoltaic systems (AVS) offer an innovative approach to producing renewable energy and crops in the same field. This is vital for Global South countries, where food security and energy crisis are major concerns today. Using the Advocacy Coalition Framework, this study examines stakeholder perceptions of AVS adoption in Global South with a specific focus on Bangladesh. Data were collected from 223 respondents through face-to-face surveys. The study used multiple regression analysis to test the effects of perceived benefits, stakeholder participation, economic viability, financial support, and perceived barriers on AVS adoption. The findings show that stakeholders generally view AVS benefits positively. Perceived benefits had the strongest and statistically significant effect on AVS adoption. Stakeholder participation also showed a positive but weaker effect. Economic viability and financial support had positive but statistically insignificant effects. Perceived barriers had a negative effect on AVS adoption, with installation cost, lack of infrastructure, and technical knowledge as major concerns. The study highlights that stakeholders need clear benefits, practical proof, technical support, and reduced practical risks for AVS to become successful. The study also suggests pilot projects, training, reduced financial risk, and better infrastructure to support future AVS policy in similar Global South contexts.
