dc.description.abstractPoster for presention by Dr. Kent Blansett, author of A Journey to Freedom: Richard Oakes, Alcatraz, and the Red Power Movement, on November 7, 2019 in the North Ballroom, Lory Student Center. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Altactraz takeover by the activist organization Indians of All Tribes. Blansett explores Alcatraz Island's complex relationship with Native people and its role in the life of one of the founders of the Red Power Movement: Awaksasne Mohawk Richard Oakes.
