Abstract
How to Safely Move and Hang a Monarch Cocoon is a series of poems that are principally concerned with the intersection of modernity and loss of innocence, primarily in feminine bodies. Family, sexuality, heartbreak, and inundation with media, the cruxes of growing up in the 21st century, are the most visible recurrences. These poems experiment with the classic lyric and inherited forms while always defying it through the slang and languages of the current era. You’ll find both Petrarch and emojis in close proximity in these pages. As the final line of the first poem in the collection says, “nothing is sacred.”
