dc.description.abstract | The artist's statement: As a Graphic Designer, I create a visual identity to the task set at hand. By creating a background story and the intended audience; I give the piece its own persona. While most of the time I communicate with a client to bring their idea to life, I also create pieces of my own. Growing up in New Hampshire, I took a lot of inspiration from the beach and environment around me. At a young age, I started working at a surf shop and was fascinated by the Surf and Skate culture around me. This inspired me to go to school for Graphic Design. In my own work, I often consider myself an illustrator just as much as a graphic designer. The idea of bringing the imagination to life and having others get to peak inside my head is something that I find very interesting. In most of my work, I create creatures that often resemble animals with human characteristics. When creating these, I look back at surf and skate styled graphics and am constantly thinking about those styles and incorporating them into my own style. I am constantly thinking about in image as a sticker or t-shirt and that is how I base my designs most of the time. In my current work, I take these characters and use them to make comments on environmental issues going on today. I use my creatures and bring them into contact with the environment today. I am constantly making comments on what humans are doing to animals by polluting the environment around us. By doing so, I want to bring awareness about the subject through stickers or posters and in the end create a brand that does the same. | en_US |
