Abstract

The artist's statement: My work often reflects my interests and passions. As an emerging artist, I draw inspiration from music, TV shows, and various media. Some of my favorite pieces I've made in school show this through an illustrated book I created inspired by one of my favorite albums, “Home Video” by Lucy Dacus, where I fused my love for music and design into a cohesive visual narrative. Additionally, I've created a dynamic live music magazine that captures the energy and culture surrounding live performances. I also designed a camera accessory brand that brings color and creativity back into shopping for film & digital camera accessories. When creating any graphic design work, my process starts with researching the topic and audience, brainstorming, creating mood boards, and developing an overall visual language. I begin by sketching and then transform those into digital drafts, continuing to refine them until completion. I enjoy creating posters through vectors and illustrations in my graphic design work, primarily using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. It is a great way for me to experiment and have fun while designing, as well as being a means of visual communication. Illustration has become a new medium for me since I got a drawing pad. It has allowed me to create illustrations digitally, practice my drawing skills, and venture into new styles. Creating publications and book covers is challenging and fun as I compile information and media in a way that is cohesive and purposeful. I have enjoyed taking various classes such as photography, pottery, and printmaking in addition to multiple foundation courses. It was a learning experience and helped me understand what I do and don’t enjoy as well as being able to incorporate elements from different concentrations into my work. Through these classes and past experiences, photography has always been one of those mediums I enjoy. I learned how to use a variety of analog film cameras, developing, and printing techniques such as black & white and color printing, silver gelatin, salt printing, cyanotype, and many others. I have started to find ways to combine both photography and graphic design and hope to venture more into that. A project that inspired this is when we were asked to find antique photos, take our own 35mm photos, and then compile, photoshop, and edit them. These diverse experiences have not only broadened my skills and understanding but also sparked a passion for integrating photography and graphic design, motivating me to further explore their collaboration in future projects. As I am still exploring my artistic abilities and discovering my true potential, I am determined to continue challenging myself creatively by experimenting with new styles and techniques. Whether it is through graphic designing, photography, or a combination of both, I am committed to exploring and enhancing my skills as an artist.
