| dc.description.abstract | The artist's statement: When I looked up graphic design, Google search defined it as "the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books." So even though people often attribute graphic design to digital media, I like to think it has a wide range of mediums. Because of this, you'll find that not all of my work is digital media. I do like to render things digitally first though, whether thats a sketch in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Procreate before making physical art. I will use free imaging to render something realistic, create something on my own, or mesh the two together in the Adobe Applications for all of my digital works. For example, I loved working for The Rocky Mountain Collegian Student Newspaper as a Page Designer, where all of that work was created in InDesign. In my body of work, you'll find a lot of class assignments, with sprinkled-in professional projects. I have loved being able to explore my interests in art for the last 3 years since I became an art major at CSU; which is why I feel I don't have an art style or medium yet. I have love for sculpture, drawing, and animation. I'm a very conceptual person and am grateful to have been able to learn a plethera of new skills to allow me to make my ideas phyisical. Rather than drawing inspiration from other art or art styles, I like to draw on my identities and experiences. I am a Black woman from a low in-come, single-parent family. These identities heavily impact who I am and how I show up in spaces. They influence how I see and experience the world, the topics I find interesting, and the struggles I face. When I can't find the words to express my thoughts, art has become an effective medium for communication. Though my overall work doesn't directly tie to one another, I think its variety in materials, concepts, and execution show how engrossed I am to learn art- not just graphic design. I want to be a lifelong learner; meaning I'll allow myself to change and grow overtime, taking my art along with me. Consequently, I hope my portfolio shows how expansive graphic design can be and how much I've learned as a CSU art major. | en_US |
