Abstract
Angels Sing the Blues explores the layers of individual identity. The manuscript is meant to mimic the ebb and flow of an individual's emotions as they question what they believe and demonstrate through their actions. Using queer theory and Gloria AnzaldĂșa's Borderlands as a theoretical base, the manuscript explores identity issues related to gender roles, cultural and heritage, as well as faith and religion. The poet's identity is a product of madness and obsession; one which is blissful and difficult. In Angels Sing the Blues, the poet works to find harmony among what instinct tells her to do and what tradition begs her to consider.
