| dc.description.abstract | The artist's statement: My name is Hannah Popish, and I am an Electronic artist getting my BFA through Colorado State University. Through my work, I like to mix media that I have learned at my university, such as fibers or illustration. I want to challenge my viewers' perspectives and introduce new techniques by mixing these media. By utilizing my skills in newer technology and much older skills and fibers, I'm able to explore these media in new ways and bridge the gap between the digital world and the physical. I hope to allow my work to be interactive in many different ways and to be experienced through sight, sound, and touch, thus removing barriers between my artwork and the viewer. My work is directly inspired by my personal experiences and the way that I view the world. I especially hold the natural world very close to my heart, and I have always found refuge within it. I want to invite my viewers into my work, hoping to create a space where I can bring the natural world to others. I'm vulnerable in my work to allow my viewers to see nature through a different lens and to create an experience they can look back on. I believe that there is a curiosity behind learning someone's personal experiences in life, and I am not afraid to share them with others. I want to be honest, and my art in return becomes an outlet for me to express my emotions. Some of my best work is when I am true to myself, which is fierce and unapologetic. I say what's on my mind, and I'm ok with the fact that not everyone will agree with me. I hope that my art inspires anyone in their hobby or profession because we must keep asking questions and creating new things. Especially when inspired by the world around us. My work ultimately represents the justice that I aim for and the healing that comes from the Earth if we choose to listen to what it's telling us. Whether or not someone believes in a higher power, there is a very powerful energy around us, and I want to try to encapsulate it in my work and make it visible. Through storytelling and my mediums, I will speak for those who don't have a voice and allow myself to speak my mind and what I truly believe in. | |
