This thesis is comprised of narrative nonfiction essays on place and immersion memoir intended to answer a broad question about exploration and what does it mean to be a citizen of the world in the twenty-first century. I want readers to consider their own travels and think about how the world and they are impacted by the exposure. I have shared my experiences in the world through reflection and exposition in an attempt to encourage others to explore beyond their comfort zone and experience other cultures with an open mind. The majority of essays are mid-length: 3,000–4,000 words, with several long form, over 6,000, and a few short pieces, or flash, under 1,500 words, to showcase my skill in writing essays in different length categories. The resulting thesis creates a body of work suitable for publication as a collection of loosely related stand-alone essays.
