    Abstract
Optical switches based on GaAs/AlGaAs vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers and heterojunction phototransistors are combined monolithically into new switching configurations that perform optical logic and spatial routing in a dynamically programmable manner. Using simple voltage control, many different logic and routing configurations, including AND and OR gates with variable fan-out, can be implemented using the same hardware.

Contrails of Small and Very Large Optical Depth

Author(s):Atlas, David; Wang, Zhien; Atlas, David; Wang, Zhien
      Date:2010-09-01
This work deals with two kinds of contrails. The first comprises a large number of optically thin contrails near the tropopause. They are mapped geographically using a lidar to obtain their height and a camera to obtain ...

Polyimide-planarized, vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers with 17.0 GHz bandwith

      Author(s):Al-Omari, Ahmad N.; Lear, Kevin L.
      Date Issued:2004
      Format:born digital; articles
High speed, oxide-confined, polyimide-planarized 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) exhibit - 3dB modulation bandwidths up to 17.0 GHz. The devices are fabricated using a reproducible, simple process ...
