Molecular genetics of herbicide resistance in Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri): metabolic tembotrione resistance and geographic origin of glyphosate resistance
Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) is a major weed in U.S. cotton and soybean production systems, partly because it evolved resistance to five different herbicide modes of action. Resistance to the 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD)-inhibitor tembotrione in a population from Nebraska (NER) is due to enhanced metabolism. This type of non-target-site resistance is especially troublesome because of its potential for cross-resistance. Tembotrione-susceptible (NES) and NER formed the same tembotrione metabolites but NER exhibited faster 4-hydroxylation followed by glycosylation. The T 50 ...

Fatigue resistance vs. fall resistance: high-intensity interval training and the dissociation of stamina and stability in older adults Author(s):Brodsky, Timothy WilliamDate Issued:2016Format:born digital; masters thesesINTRODUCTION: The population of older adults (≥65 years) in the U.S. is growing, and this population faces unique health risks compared to young and middle aged adults. One of the primary health risks for older adults is ...
Evolution of mutations associated with pyrethroid resistance and the reversal of resistance in Aedes aegypti Author(s):Vera Maloof, Farah ZamiraDate Issued:2019Format:born digital; doctoral dissertationsWorldwide vector control has been relying heavily on pyrethroid insecticides to reduce Aedes aegypti Linnaeus populations. Pyrethroids are relatively inexpensive, have low vertebrate toxicity, and have been efficient in ...
Folate pathway inhibitor resistance mechanisms in Burkholderia pseudomallei Author(s):Podnecky, Nicole L.Date Issued:2013Format:born digital; doctoral dissertationsAntimicrobials are invaluable tools used to facilitate the treatment of infectious diseases. Their use has saved millions of lives since their introduction in the early 1900's. Unfortunately, due to the increased incidence ...
