Mammals that hibernate, such as the golden-mantled ground squirrel (Callospermophilus lateralis; GMGS), cease to feed, reduce metabolic rate, and lower body temperature (Tb) during the winter months, surviving almost exclusively on the oxidation of lipids from endogenous fat stores.
