Presented at the Retractions conference: keeping the pool clean: prevention and management of misconduct related retractions held on July 20-21, 2016 at Hilton Fort Collins in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Charon Pierson is the Secretary of the Council and Trustee Board for the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). She is a geriatric nurse practitioner with a PhD in Medical Sociology and post-doctoral education in gerontology. She has taught geriatrics to nursing and medical students as faculty at California State University Long Beach, University of Hawaii, and University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) and also served as the Director of the Center for Aging at UTEP. Retired after 30 years in academia, she now consultants at universities and schools on the development of geriatric-related content for online courses and graduate programs and lectures widely on publication ethics. Since 2000 she has been the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, a monthly, peer-reviewed scholarly journal indexed in the Web of Science. She has served on the COPE Council since 2012.
