Invisible Bars : Identifying the Needs of Children with an Incarcerated Parent
The presentation will focus on the 1 in every 40 American children in the U.S. with an incarcerated parent. This will include infants, young children and adolescents. The presentation will highlight these children's unique social, emotional and academic needs in both their home and school setting. Current trends in research-based interventions will also be reviewed such as the innovative new Wyoming prison nursery program and the federal grant based Mentoring Children of Prisoners. Ms. Carson will also briefly share how she plans to incorporate an autoethnographic component into her research. ...
