INDEX OF REFRACTION OF EXTENDED METAL ATOM CHAINS
The extended metal atom chain compound [Ni3(dpa)4(NCS)2] was synthesized in lab and deposited as films on glass substrates with a known dispersion curve. The film and substrates were analyzed with an in-lab constructed refractometer that measured the profile of a beam of white light, which was passed through the sample at varying angles. The refractive index of the compound over the visible and near ultraviolet ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum was calculated from the collected data and compared to published theoretical results. Negative indices of refraction were predicted. ...
