As of 2018, in the United States, thirty states have legalized cannabis for medical use and nine states have legalized cannabis for recreational use. In the state of Colorado, by law, a driver may be prosecuted for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID) if they are found to have a whole blood concentration of at least 5 ng/mL of parent THC, regardless of whether it has been used recreationally or medically.
