These studies were intended to identify a mechanism through which the TGFβ signaling pathway increases androgen receptor (AR) under anchorage independent conditions to promote anoikis resistance in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). TNBC is an aggressive subtype with few treatment options for chemo-resistant disease. In both preclinical models and patient circulating tumor cells, AR expression is upregulated during TNBC anchorage independent survival.
