dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 140-175 cm; Identification: The eastern white pelican has a white body and white upperwing feathers. The underwing feathers are black and white. The eastern white pelican has a large, broad bill with a yellow gular pouch, and its wings have a pinkish tinge during breeding season; Habitat: Large lakes and lagoons, coastal waters, slow moving rivers; Diet: Carnivore: fish; Reproduction: Eastern white pelicans are colonial nesters. Even if a breeding pair lays two eggs, only one chick will be raised. The breeding success rate for this species is very irregular; Social Structure: Highly sociable, eastern white pelicans are often found in large flocks; Behavior: When catching fish, a group of eastern white pelicans will drive a school into shallow water. Birds in the rear of the group will then leapfrog over the others and dive into the fleeing fish; Status: No special status.
