John Fielder is one of Colorado’s eminent photographers. He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1950 and raised in Connecticut and North Carolina. Influenced by experiences in his youth, Fielder moved to Colorado in 1972. After an eight-year career as an executive with the May D & F Department Stores, Fielder shifted his career to his passion, landscape photography. With over fifty books of photographs covering Colorado wilderness and rural areas, Fielder has documented the visual beauty of the peaks and plains across the state. He continues to actively photograph, write, and teach, and is also an advocate for conservation and works to promote the protection of Colorado open space and wildlands.

This digital collection consists of an oral history interview with Fielder conducted by the CSU Libraries in 2021.
