CE712: Hydraulic Structures Design. Lectures 39 & 40
November 12, 1986: Lecture 37, Rahim Kia: Topic of the lecture is spillway design, including discharge of water, a design head somewhere between maximum and minimum flows, and storage of floodwaters in the reservoir to lessen maximums. A short slideshow examines spillway design and issues at Alcova Dam in Wyoming, including creation of a spillway basin. The final topic of the lecture examines whitewater aspects of spillways, including the vaporization of air and the need to avoid cavitation. Note: although this video is labeled "lectures 39 & 40," on tape it is 37.
