Normal Markel: his experiences in World War II, as told in his own words
On November 12, 2009 Norman Markel sat down at his home in Greeley, CO and told of his experiences in World War II. Born in Michigan City, IN, Norm enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was a radio man/waist gunner aboard a B-17. He served with the 8th Air Force, 398th Bomber Group, 602 Squadron. The 8th took incredible losses of lives and planes during the war and Norm fell into these statistics. On April 25, 1945, on his 18th mission and the 8th's last of the war, his plane was shot out of the sky.
