dc.description.abstractOn June 12, 2015 Harriet (maiden name Butler) Martin sat down at her home in Loveland, CO and told of her experiences in World War II. Harriet, born in Villard, MN, served in the Coast Guard. She was part of a new elite program bringing women into the Coast Guard known as the Spars. After her training, she was stationed on the West Coast working in intelligence. While there, she met a handsome and funny sailor. When he came back from overseas, she and Bob were married. They had a wonderful and fascinating life together, living in Panama, California, the Philippines, and Colorado. There were married for sixty-two years until Bob's passing. Harriet and Bob have three children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
