Ida Lichtenwald Hettinger (1920-2003) was a Russian German who was part of the Soviet Union’s forced deportation to Siberia in 1941. Her papers consist of letters written between 1993 and 2002 to family in the United States. Ida located her distant family by answering an ad in the Neues Leben newspaper. The ad was posted by Robert and Sally Hahn who were looking for relatives of the Hahn and Miller families from Doenhof. Correspondence is primarily about Ida’s extended family and personal history. The original letters are written in German, and many have an English translation provided by Harold Stoll.
