The 2014 Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine, John O'Keefe, Edvard Moser, and May-Britt Moser, have worked to explain how an environmental map forms and is used in the brain (Nobelprize.org 2014b). O'Keefe discovered place cells that allow the brain to learn and remember specific locations.
