Kippley, Kendall, artist2016-08-092016-08-092016http://hdl.handle.net/10217/176291Colorado State University Art and Art History Department capstone project.Capstone contains the artist's statement, a list of works, and images of works. The artist's statement: I draw on a range of methods, research and materials that combine to animate my vibrant paintings. My painting blends representational imagery with abstracted and fabricated forms, which serve as a way for me to reconcile the chaotic, unseen forces of nature with the beautiful and life giving presence that I am captivated by. My work relates the art making process to the conditions that produce natural phenomena by changing a brushstroke or using an unpredictable material to generate an effect. The imagery becomes spontaneous and uncertain, but also intentional and carefully constructed. Inspiration for this work comes from the interest I have in exploring my own tension with the universe and my awe of the natural world. When the paintings come to life, they become a visual record of energy, paralleled with the motion it takes to create a painting. The intrinsic presence of beauty is illuminated by both the act of painting and the observation of movement, manifesting a new way to perceive phenomena within nature through materials on a surface.Student worksengCopyright and other restrictions may apply.
