This conference brought together people with experience working collaboratively to achieve both conservation and livelihood goals in tribal nations, rangelands, forests, watersheds, agricultural lands, and urban areas. Sally Collins was named director of the USDA Office of Ecosystem Services and Markets (OESM) in December 2008. OESM plays an instrumental role in advancing markets for services provided by farms, forests and ranches across the country. As director, Collins supports the USDA Secretary in developing uniform, science-based guidelines and the infrastructure necessary to make ecosystem markets function, including procedures and tools for measuring, reporting and registering environmental benefits produced by land management activities. Collins has spent more than 25 years in public service. She served most recently as associate chief for the U.S. Forest Service.
