While the use of ESR to reconstruct dose is well understood for human tooth enamel, the reliability and usefulness of dose reconstruction using ESR in mouse tooth enamel has not been as thoroughly studied. This paper aims to resolve this gap in knowledge concerning the use of the tooth enamel from the Large Japanese Field Mouse as acting dosimeter using EPR spectroscopy. Methods of tooth preparation were analyzed to find a preparation method that resolved a baseline shift or slope in output signals of preliminary samples. Use of purity EDTA (ethylenedinitrilotetraacetic acid, disodium salt dihydrate) was initially found to reduce an observed baseline shift and slope in the output spectrum. Subsequent samples treated with EDTA, however, again saw baseline shifts. More needs to be done to analyze appropriate methodology to reduce the baseline shift, and to further determine the suitability of mouse teeth for ESR spectroscopy for reconstruction of lifetime dose.born digitalmasters thesesengCopyright and other restrictions may apply.
