Non-native teachers of American Indian children
Changes in American Indian (AI) education gained momentum toward the end of the 21st century as culturally responsive pedagogies filtered into the classroom. Students began to be taught by some culturally sensitive non-Native as well as Native American (NA) teachers. Today many AI children are taught by non-Native teachers many of whom still lack the pedagogical training crucial for helping students to access knowledge and achieve academic success. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the current states of the preparation of Non-Native teachers of AI children.
