Glen Canyon Unit, Colorado River storage Project, Two-Millionth Bucket of concrete
The bucket containing the two-millionth cubic yard of concrete to be placed in Glen Canyon Dam is dumped by L. F. Wylie, Project Construction Engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation. When the huge dam is finished in early 1964, it will contain about five million cubic yards of concrete. The contractor, Merritt-Chapman and Scott Corp., is using 12-cubic yard buckets to place concrete at a rate of over 8,000 cubic yards a day. The crews work three shifts a day, five days a week.
