Abstract This study examined the relationship between nurse practitioner characteristics, practice setting, exposure to pay-for-performance (P4P) payment models, practice environment and intrinsic motivation on attitudes about P4P in Colorado. P4P payment models have proliferated in the last 20 years as a primary mechanism to incentivize provider behavior to improve quality of care and reduce cost of care.
