Applications of susceptible infectious recovered models for measles risk in Colorado schools and childcare centers
Measles was considered eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but in the first 7 months of 2019 there have been over 1,100 reported cases. Many states, including Colorado, allow for non-medical exemptions (NMEs) to vaccinations for school-aged children, and NMEs are thought to be a major driving factor in the recent US measles outbreak. Colorado has the lowest reported MMR vaccination rate for incoming kindergartners in the country, with only 88.7% of children covered.
