Evaluation of accessibility compliance of 463 U.S. academic library Web sites using the Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE)
An analysis of academic library Web site text equivalency compliance with W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to discover the degree of Web site inaccessibility experienced by users with visual impairments due to misuse of the ALT image attribute in HTML programming. Using the Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE) public Web tool, each URL was scanned and output to an XML file. The XML nodes, "ID", "Eval", and "Cnt"--record number, evaluation checkpoints, and number of pages scanned, respectively--were mapped to an Excel spreadsheet and filtered to reveal only the benchmarks for ALT use.
