National Park Service specialist, Ryan Monello, holds the head of a tranquilized cow elk with CSU professor Terry Nett and National Park Service biologist Mary Kay Watry. The researchers are injecting cow elk with Lupron, a gonadotropin releasing hormone, in a clinical trial in Rocky Mountain National Park. The use the hormone has been developed through Terry Nett's research at CSU. This is the first contraception trial on free ranging animals. There will be 20 treated animals and 20 controls.
