dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 70 cm ; Weight: 1.8 kg ; Identification: The male Australian brush turkey has a black bill, bare red skin on its head, neck, crown, and nape, and a large yellow collar and wattle. Its plumage is a dull black color. The female has a smaller neckband and no wattle. ; Habitat: Rainforests, wet open forests, dry inland areas ; Diet: Herbivore: fruit, seeds, insects ; Reproduction: Male brush turkeys build large incubation mounds in which the female lays her 18-20 eggs. Breeding is done from August to September. The eggs incubate for 67-85 days before hatching. ; Behavior: Males constantly monitor the temperature of their nest mounds, removing vegetation to cool it down and adding vegetation to keep the eggs warmer. ; Status: No special status ; Interesting Facts: Brush turkeys use their tongue to test the temperature of their nests.
