dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 43 cm; Identification: The head, body, and tail of the silver gull are white. The mantle, back, and wings are gray in color. This gull also has a red bill; Habitat: Coastal waters, inland lakes, sandy and rocky shores; Diet: Omnivore: small aquatic animals, berries, seeds, insects; Reproduction: Breeding occurs year-round. Three eggs are laid on the ground near grass tufts and then incubated for 21-27 days. The chicks are independent by six weeks of age; Social Structure: In silver gull flocks, there is a hierarchy based on age; Behavior: Older birds will often drive younger birds from feeding territory; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Silver gulls have had a population explosion in recent years around Australia's cities especially due to the excessive provision of food scraps.
