dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 51 cm; Weight: 2.4 kg; Identification: The small-toothed palm civet can be silver, buff, or dark-brown in color. It has three thin, dark stripes running down its back and a white streak in the middle of its nose; Habitat: Dense forests; Diet: Omnivore: insects, small mammals, birds, lizards, frogs, fruit; Reproduction: There is no set breeding season for this species. Dens are built in trees. Gestation lasts 45 days, with three young being born. Females usually have two litters each year. Civets can live up to 11 years in the wild; Social Structure: Civets are solitary; Behavior: The main features of a civet's behavior is that it is arboreal and nocturnal; Status: Threatened: deforestation; Interesting Facts: The main interest man has in the civet is collecting musk from the pods, or glands, near the reproductive organs of the female and male. It is accordingly used in some of the best perfumes.
