dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 56-110 cm; Weight: .95-9.0 kg; Identification: The Canada goose has a brownish body with a black head. It has a long black neck and a white cheek patch; Habitat: Lakes, ponds, bays, marshes, fields; Diet: Omnivore: grass, aquatic plants, insects, mollusks, crustaceans, small fish; Reproduction: Canada geese return to their birthplace to breed every season. The female incubates her five eggs for 25-30 days. The nest is usually a shallow scrape on the ground. Six to nine weeks after hatching, the young are taking their first flight; Social Structure: Strong pair and family bonds are commonly formed between Canada geese. They feed in small flocks; Behavior: This is a migratory species, using the same routes for several generations; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: There are 12 geographically distinct races of Canada geese.
