Pauline Birky-Kreutzer (1915-2008) was a research associate with the Colorado State University Research Foundation and part of the staff that conducted a Congressional feasibility study on a youth corps training program, which became the foundation for the U.S. Peace Corps in 1961. Her papers in the University Archive primarily document the establishment of the Peace Corps and the role played by CSU, with material dating from 1959 to 2004 (bulk 1960-1968). This digital collection consists of the majority of the archival collection. Included are reports, correspondence, memos, training guides, logs, reference material, and newspaper clippings regarding the establishment of the Peace Corps, CSU’s involvement, and Pakistan Peace Corps project activities when Pauline Birky-Kreutzer served as the on-site coordinator. Also present are photographic prints and 35mm slides and negatives that document Peace Corps activities in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and South America. The collection includes magazine articles, awards, and writings such as a copy of Maurice L. Albertson's personal history at CSU. In December of 1963, Pauline Birky-Kreutzer wrote, “Talks about role in Peace Corps”, which highlighted the history of the Peace Corps, CSU involvement and her work with volunteers in Pakistan. She also was a primary contributor for the November 1963, “Final Report: West Pakistan Peace Corps Project August 1961 to November 1963”.
