Ruth Soar: her experiences in World War II, as told in her own words
On June 29, 2009 Ruth (maiden name Ewy) Soar sat down at her home in Fort Collins, CO and told of her experiences in World War II. Ruth, born in Windom and raised in St. Paul, MN, served in the Women's Army Corps. She worked for the War Department soon after graduating from high school, working in Washington, New Jersey and Denver. In 1944, she and a friend decided to join the Army. After basic training, she was stationed with the Army Air Corps down in S. Florida. Initially put in the motor pool, she requested a new assignment and was transferred into the personnel office.
