Abstract
The artist's statement: As a designer, there is no escaping the practical nature of the art I create. The end-product is often a piece that will be held, used, and interacted with by a large variety of people and it must accomplish basic goals including legibility, readability, and communication of the appropriate message for this reason. With this in mind, however, I challenge myself to create functional works with the same attention to composition, detail, and artistic expression afforded by painters, illustrators, and other traditional media. The primary goal for each of my creations is to pick out a detail that set that project apart from others in its category and use that in some way whether that be in the visual design itself or the more subtle choices of color and size.
