In this thesis, we describe different mechanisms of regulating and controlling MCT1 (Monocarboxylic Acid Transporte 1) function in rat brain endothelial cells. This work provides a better understanding of basic factors that control and regulate MCT1 function. This is important because we not only gain a better understanding of how cerebrovascular MCT1 controls monocarboxylates in brain energy metabolism, but we are also provided with more information as to how MCT1 may contribute to the development of lactic acidosis in disease.
