Abstract
The artist's statement: My work is about domesticity but it isn't feminine. My drawings communicate by using domestic themes and concepts of the family. By creating types of spaces that would commonly be found in a stereo-typical American family households then deconstructing those ideologies. Usually there is a focal point and the rest of the space is left up to the viewer to fill in. Most pieces depict an over excessive environment that allows the viewer to understand the scenario. I usually work with very traditional drawing materials like graphite and paper. I have recently been working with non-traditional techniques such as embroidery on paper, cut paper, collage and three dimensional objects. I am drawn to objects found in older, decrepit homes. These objects and materials express a certain kind of lived experience that fascinates me. My intent with my recent projects is to continue with my theme of family dichotomies but to make it more satirical and approachable. The overall theme of my work is that from far away it might look like a typical normalized home, but up close things are very abnormal and uncanny.
