William Thomas: his experiences in World War II, as told in his own words
On July 29, 2010 William "Bill" Thomas sat down at his home in Fort Collins, CO and told of his experiences in World War II. Bill, raised on a farm outside Rankin, IL, served in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 early in 1941 and served aboard the USS Northampton (CA-26). The Northampton was out to sea and due back into Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec. 7th! A delay caused them to arrive late and they could see the attack. His ship would go on to be a part of a number of historic battles and events.
