Harold Stevenson: his experiences in World War II, as told in his own words
On April 27, 2009 Harold Stevenson sat down at his home in Evans, CO and told of his experiences in World War II. Harold, born and raised in the coal mining town of Kemmerer, WY, enlisted in the Navy. Trained as a torpedo specialist, Harold wanted to get into the submarines, but a paperwork mess up landed him aboard the destroyer USS Nelson (DD-623). He tells about life aboard the Nelson as she sailed through the Atlantic and Mediterranean escorting convoys, hunting subs and giving support during amphibious landings.
