Charles Lummis (1859-1928) was a noted author, photographer, ethnographer, archaeologist, and librarian. Gaining fame for walking from Ohio to California in the 1880s, Lummis spent much of his life documenting and protecting the lives and activities of the indigenous peoples of the Southwest United States. His papers in the Manuscript collection contain letters, photographs, publications, music, and newspaper clippings. The bulk of the collection consists of approximately 1,000 cyanotype photographs of the Southwest, his family, and his home El Alisal, and 250 letters from friends and family. This digital collection, dated 1880 to 1939, contains photographic prints, letters, and a guide to his collection written in 1979.
