George Fender: his experiences in World War II, as told in his own words
On April 14, 2010 George Fender of Loveland, CO sat down and told of his experiences in World War II. George, born in Pittsburgh and raised in Green Tree, PA, served in the Army Air Corps. He was an engineer/waist gunner in a B-24 with the 307th Bomber Group of the 13th Air Force (the "jungle Air Force"), He flew 49 missions throughout the southwest Pacific. On his 32nd mission he and the crew had to bail out of their plane and spent the next 30 days evading the Japanese before being rescued.
